DESCRIPTION
While Souls of Mischief never reached commercial mega-stardom, their 1993 debut 93 ‘Til Infinity — and the iconic single of the same name — has remained a cornerstone of golden era hip-hop for dedicated fans and crate-diggers alike.
With a smooth, agile rhyme style, members Tajai, Opio, A-Plus, and Phesto bounce off one another in perfect synchronicity. They emerged from the eclectic Oakland-based collective Hieroglyphics, which also included Del the Funky Homosapien, Casual, and others — a group defined by lyrical dexterity, wit, and musical innovation.
This track stands out for its melodic and jazzy production. It’s built around samples from Billy Cobham’s "Heather" stitched together seamlessly, and powered by a Graham Central Station drum break — one that’s been immortalized by everyone from Geto Boys to Biz Markie. The result is a breezy, laid-back groove that contrasts with the grittier, head-nodding East Coast sound of the era.
There’s no heavy-handed message here — just four MCs effortlessly flexing their lyrical chops and showing how the West Coast rocks it. For the first time, the original album version of 93 ‘Til Infinity is available on 7”, with the instrumental version on the flip — ideal for collectors, DJs, or hip-hop karaoke warriors looking to sharpen their flow.
