DESCRIPTION

Back in stock due to popular demand — the 80th release in the signature Brazil 45’s series from Mr Bongo aptly focuses on the breathtaking 1980s recordings of one of Brazil’s musical giants, Jorge Ben. This 7” delivers a double dose of classic cuts from the master: ‘Curumin Chama Cunhãtã Que Eu Vou Contar (Todo Dia Era Dia De Índio)’ and ‘Rio Babilônia’.

On the A side, ‘Curumin Chama Cunhãtã Que Eu Vou Contar (Todo Dia Era Dia De Índio)’ is an irresistibly groovy, sun-soaked anthem taken from Jorge Ben’s 1981 album Bem-Vinda Amizade, originally released by Som Livre. Overflowing with warmth and rhythm, the track serves as a heartfelt homage to the indigenous peoples and tribes of Brazil — an iconic, emotionally rich example of Jorge Ben’s genius.

The B side features ‘Rio Babilônia’, a beloved Brazilian boogie gem that radiates joyful energy. A mid-tempo celebration of life in Rio de Janeiro, it pays musical tribute to the city's iconic spirit, with swaggering synth bass lines gliding like waves along the shores of Copacabana. Originally released as a compacto and featured on Ben’s 1983 Dádiva LP, the track benefits from the unmistakable arrangement style of the late, great Lincoln Olivetti.

A quintessential 45 for fans of Jorge Ben and collectors of Brazil’s vibrant musical legacy.
