DESCRIPTION

Paris, 1995. Acid jazz was in full swing, French rap was blooming, and groove reigned supreme. Among the brightest stars of this vibrant era was Dis Bonjour À La Dame (DBALD)—a powerhouse ensemble that embodied everything great about the funky French underground.

Born from bassist Marc Israël’s vision and crystallized with the arrival of sultry vocalist Sital, DBALD rose fast. They opened for Jamiroquai and Maceo Parker, made waves with their breakout single “Chris’tal” from the Paris Groove Up compilation, and found themselves recording their debut album at London’s legendary (and soon after demolished) Roundhouse Studio.

This self-titled 1995 album is a lost treasure of French acid jazz, oozing with brass-driven funk, vintage R&B, and a hint of hip-hop. Tracks like “Hey Mama” and “Sheherazade Groove” bring the dancefloor heat, while “Soul Body” and “Just Like Before” slow it down with sensual class. With production by Fred Versailles (NTM) and mixing by Paul Borg (Urban Species, UFO, Mory Kanté), the album is a masterfully crafted slice of 90s soul-jazz culture.

Nearly 30 years later, this reissue is your chance to (re)experience a Parisian groove explosion—full of warmth, funk, and impeccable style.
