In 1979, Italian director Piero Vivarelli returned to screens with Nella misura in cui – a sultry, semi-autobiographical erotic film about a jaded, leftist filmmaker who lures his son’s girlfriend away on a sensual escape to the Caribbean. While provocative on screen, the film also boasts a lush, genre-blending score by Augusto Martelli, now fully released for the first time by Four Flies Records.

Building upon the tropical-voodoo sound he famously crafted for Il Dio Serpente (1970), Martelli updated his signature style with new flavors of late-'70s disco, funk, and soul. The result is a stunning soundtrack that captures the hedonistic spirit of the era — where free love, sun-drenched utopias, and Third World mysticism collide on a sonic plane.

• The main theme “The Joint” sets the tone: laid-back beachside grooves wrapped in soft psychedelia and subtle counterculture nods.

• “Joining Together” is an infectious dancefloor banger powered by Tullio De Piscopo’s tight percussion, Pino Presti’s slinky basslines, and silky strings that surprisingly elevate its disco bones.

• Tracks like “Mercato di Portorico”, “La Spiaggia di Ulisse”, and “Visions” offer evocative instrumental landscapes drenched in sensuality, suspense, and cinematic soul.

Martelli’s sophisticated writing and genre-blurring production make this one of the most exciting archival finds in the Four Flies catalog — a groovy, sun-soaked masterpiece from one of Italy’s most distinct film composers.
