The music of Isaac de Martin, aka IKE, seamlessly blends jazz and electronic influences into warm, smooth, and often cinematic soundscapes. His eclectic style reflects a wide-ranging background: born in Italy into a musical family with British roots, trained in classical guitar, and graduated in jazz performance, IKE has carved his own sonic path through years of creative experimentation, collaboration, and live touring across genres and cultures.
The Great Escape, his second full-length release under the IKE moniker, is more than just an album—it’s a thematic journey exploring personal liberation from the constraints of a hyper-technological society. These songs are gentle invitations to reconnect with our inner child, to rediscover the natural rhythm of life, spontaneity, and imagination.
The concept was born in mid-2019, sparked by IKE’s collaboration with American singer-songwriter and actress Sera Kalo. Her soulful vocals, emotionally rich lyrics, and melodic sensibility proved to be a perfect match for IKE’s elegant nu jazz frameworks, unlocking a creative vision that shaped the entire project. Over the following year, IKE expanded the sonic universe with contributions from musicians across the US, UK, Scandinavia, and Italy.
The album was recorded in multiple locations by IKE himself, mixed by Nene Baratto at Big Snuff Studio in Berlin, and mastered by Fabrizio De Carolis at Reference Mastering Studio in Rome. The cover and visual identity, created by Franz Longhi, reflect the analog ethos of the project, featuring hand-painted details on Xeroxed photographs for a raw, tactile visual mood in tune with the music’s message.
