Following the 2018 unearthing of Giuliano Sorgini’s long-lost Africa Oscura — a moody, cosmic journey once dubbed the “dark side” of Zoo Folle — Four Flies Records now celebrates the album’s legacy and modern relevance with a double 12-inch rework series.
This first volume features three stunning remixes from Italy’s new wave of electronic experimentalists — each reimagining Sorgini’s haunting soundscapes for today’s discerning dancefloors and deep-listening sessions.
-
pAd opens with the “Afro Temple Mix” of Oasi Nella Giungla, transforming the original into a hypnotic tribal odyssey pulsing with ritualistic energy and Afro-cosmic undertones.
-
Painé delivers a slow-burning, percussive take on Africa Oscura in his “Drums of Passion Mix”, weaving tension and groove into a darkly cinematic experience.
-
L.U.C.A. (aka Francisco) rounds out Side B with the “Ritual Quirky Mix” of Iniziazione, a quirky yet entrancing fusion of downtempo, synth psychedelia, and Balearic textures.
Recorded entirely by Sorgini himself in 1974 using a range of instruments and tape manipulations in his Rome studio, Africa Oscura has found a new cult audience among DJs and electronic heads alike. These reworks — part homage, part evolution — breathe new life into a forgotten masterpiece, projecting its eerie mystique into the future with cosmic, electronic and tribal inflections.
