The latest entry in Four Flies Records’ exclusive 12-inch vinyl series for DJs finds Neapolitan producer pAdbreathing vibrant, club-ready energy into two gems from Alessandro Alessandroni’s 1976 soundtrack to Sangue di sbirro (also known as Knell, Bloody Avenger).
Originally written as a blaxploitation-inspired score, Alessandroni’s themes for Manhattan and Philadelphia already carried shades of funk, soul, and cinematic noir. Now, pAd reinterprets each piece in two styles — “daylight” and “nightclub” versions — extending their reach from screen to sound system.
-
“Manhattan (Daylight Version)” merges disco-funk with shimmering 80s electro elements, while
-
“Manhattan (Nightclub Version)” shifts gears into nu-disco, laced with hip-hop and jazz-funk inflections.
-
On the flip side, “Philadelphia (Daylight Version)” blends dub, leftfield textures, and slow funk, even introducing Arab-inspired motifs, and
-
“Philadelphia (Nightclub Version)” becomes a rich, soulful downtempo cut, perfect for deeper sets.
Each track respects Alessandroni’s original vision while delivering a bold update, ensuring his timeless compositions resonate on today’s dancefloors — and finally earning the recognition this unsung genius of Italian cinema music deserves.
