Words have a force of their own: a life generated by their meaning and by the imaginative world they evoke. Just pair the words “Moon” and “Apollo”, and you're instantly transported into one of humanity's greatest adventures — the Moon landing, the space race, the engineers, astronauts, and all the cosmic wonder of that era.
It is from this vast universe of imagery and inspiration that beat-maker and bassist Moonbrew and organist/keyboardist Paolo Apollo Negri conceived The LEM Tales, a collaborative project that’s just as much about space exploration as it is about musical fusion. Their names — Moon and Apollo — are no coincidence, symbolizing the merging of two creative forces into a sonic realm where hip hop meets funk, pop flirts with jazz, and vintage electronics blend with modern production techniques.
The LEM Tales: Chapter One tells the story of the American space program, with each track acting as a stop along the journey from Project Gemini through to Tranquillity Base, where Armstrong and Aldrin made history in 1969. The album pays homage to the space missions, the heroes, and the machinery — with titles like “EMU” (the iconic NASA spacesuit), “Saturn V” (the legendary rocket), and “Capsule Communicator” (the critical voice from mission control).
Written using old-school hip hop methods, Moonbrew and Negri built the rhythm section from sampled vintage drum hits, then layered analog synths, string machines, organs, tube amps, and live bass to craft rich, textural compositions that feel both nostalgic and forward-looking. It’s a deeply cinematic, groove-heavy, retro-futuristic soundtrack — one that resonates with the thrill of discovery and the intimacy of human experience in space.
Released on vinyl by Four Flies with digital distribution by Record Kicks, this edition features two exclusive tracksnot available in the digital release.
