DESCRIPTION
Originally released in 1976, High-Flying by Hiromasa Suzuki is a dazzling pre-fusion jazz masterpiece that captures a transitional moment in Japanese jazz—where sophisticated arrangements met the vibrant energy of funk, soul, and rock. Best known for his work on Hiroshi Suzuki’s Romance and Jiro Inagaki’s Breeze, Suzuki was a prolific composer and arranger across jazz, pop, film, and television.
Produced by Jiro Inagaki, the album features a stellar lineup including Shuichi Murakami on drums, Akira Okazawa on bass, and a fiery appearance by guitar legend Masayoshi Takanaka. Together, they deliver a propulsive and richly textured listening experience, from the high-octane groove of “Screwdriver” to the cinematic sweep of “Out of Focus.”
