DESCRIPTION

A certified Holy Grail of Brazilian music and one of our most requested reissues to date! Lotus 72 D by Zé Roberto is finally available — featuring both versions: the original and the fast cut. Whether you prefer the classic or the pitched-up tempo popularized by the Via Brazil compilation from 2001, the choice is yours.

Zé Roberto (aka Joaquim Roberto Braga) is a composer, singer, and instrumentalist rooted in Brazilian folk traditions. Lotus 72 D is his tribute to legendary Formula 1 driver Emerson Fittipaldi, who won the world championship in 1972.

In Roberto’s own words:

“Lotus 72 D is a tribute to the sensational talent of Formula 1 driver, Emerson Fittipaldi, who was crowned world champion in 1972.”

The track was originally recorded in 1973 under RCA/Victor, with artistic coordination by Henrique Gastaldello and arrangements by Severino Filho. The original recording’s lineup of musicians remains undocumented, as they were hired session players through the label.

Interestingly, Roberto himself was unaware of the widely circulated “fast version” of the song, which emerged from the Via Brazil compilation. That version had been pitched up, creating a distinct sound that became beloved among collectors and DJs — yet was impossible to obtain in official form... until now.

This special reissue makes both tempos available, fully remastered and preserved from original sources. All musical rights remain with the artist.
