DESCRIPTION
Back in stock due to popular demand — the 12th release in the signature Brazil 45’s series from Mr Bongo features a reissue of two certified classics drawn from Brazil’s rich musical tapestry.
On the A side, Brazilian samba icon Elza Soares delivers a powerhouse cover of Jorge Ben’s classic ‘Mas Que Nada’. Originally featured on her brilliant Sambas & Mais Sambas LP released by Odeon in 1970, this version amps up the energy with tougher drums, punchy piano, and Elza’s unmistakably commanding vocal performance. With over 34 albums spanning a six-decade career, Elza is nothing short of a Brazilian music legend.
On the flip, ‘Vou Falar-Lhe Francamente’ by the enigmatic artist Elizabeth — nicknamed ‘Gatinha do Mato’ (loosely translated as “Jungle Cat”) — a voice from the Jovem Guarda movement, which fused rock’n’roll and Brazilian styles during the 1960s.
This majestic, horn-laden cut is steeped in emotional weight and was originally released on 7” by RGE in 1970. Mr Bongo first discovered it at one of their now legendary (and sadly defunct) digging spots, Tony’s Hits in São Paulo — a moment of serendipity that led to this long-overdue reissue.
