DESCRIPTION
Curating and ordering the tracks for a Mr Bongo Record Club is always special. It brings back memories of carefully crafting mixtapes—sitting by the cassette deck, finger poised on “pause,” trying to impress a new crush or connect musically with a kindred spirit. Each compilation is driven by that same mix of discovery and nostalgia: unearthing old treasures, finding new obsessions, and sparking curiosity through sound.
For Volume Six, Mr Bongo presents a vibrant selection of recent finds and treasured classics, sourced from across Brazil, Sweden, the USA, South Africa, Portugal, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago, and Canada. The collection includes work by rising Brazilian star Dora Morelenbaum, alongside legends such as Haréton Salvanini, Copa 7, and Mirna. There's a Brazilian-not-Brazilian take on Ye Me Le by Hazel Scott and The Braza Brasil, gospel brilliance from the New York Community Choir, and disco-soul rarities by General Lee and Ash Soul, Inc.
Also featured is an extraordinary psych-pop track by Matthew Tavares (aka Matty), appearing on vinyl for the first time, and cuts from two of Sweden’s most beloved contemporary acts—Sven Wunder and Dina Ögon.
As always, these tracks span decades and continents, yet together they form something uniquely cohesive. That’s the magic of Mr Bongo Record Club Vol. 6.
