DESCRIPTION
Módulo 1000 were not messing around when they created Não Fale Com Paredes. This is not just a raw, heavy, and experimental Brazilian psychedelic rock album — it's a psychedelic rock juggernaut, full stop.
Formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1969, Módulo 1000 cut their teeth as a house band in clubs and resorts across São Paulo, delivering fiery covers of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin to eager crowds. Their breakout moment came when one of their songs featured in the Rio International Song Festival, igniting a desire to move beyond covers into original, unfiltered expression. Under the guidance of manager Marinaldo Guimarães, and amidst Brazil’s experimental music explosion, the band tapped into a bold, avant-garde current — sharing stages with heavyweights like O Têrço.
Their lone full-length album, Não Fale Com Paredes, was released on Top Tape Records in 1972. The line-up featured Eduardo Leal (bass), Candido Faria (drums), Daniel Cardone (guitar, violin, vocals), and Luiz Paulo Simas (organ, piano, vocals). Produced by famed DJ Ademir Lemos, the record came packaged in a stunning fold-out sleeve designed by Wander Borges — trippy visuals to match the equally mind-altering sonics within.
But Brazil’s radio wasn’t ready. The uncompromising heaviness, veering into early metal, prog rock, and even hints of proto-math-rock, meant the album was largely overlooked at the time. Rumour has it the label didn’t even know how to market it. Like many underground classics, it disappeared — only to be rediscovered by diggers and collectors decades later.
The sound? Think more Black Sabbath than Os Mutantes. Aggressive, intense, sometimes jarring, always exhilarating. Módulo 1000 also released a rare 7” and appeared on several Odeon Records compilations, and even issued a single under their alias Love Machine. These recordings are included as bonus tracks on the CD version of this reissue.
