DESCRIPTION
Back in stock due to popular demand — the 19th release in the signature Brazil 45’s series from Mr Bongo shines a light on Wilson das Neves’ brilliant cover of Average White Band’s ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ and an all-time Mr Bongo Brazilian funk favourite from Som Três – ‘Tanga’.
Wilson das Neves was a legendary Brazilian percussionist, best known for his work with Os Ipanemas. The A side of this 7” features his take on ‘Pick Up The Pieces’, recorded with his conjunto ensemble. A samba-funk reinterpretation of the Average White Band classic, it’s loaded with fiery percussion and bold horns. Originally released on the Som Quente É O Das Neves LP in 1969.
On the flip side, a staple in the Mr Bongo Brazilian funk canon: ‘Tanga’ by Som Três. Packed into just over two minutes are blistering drums, feverish vocals, and peaking piano riffs. Som Três was a trio led by prolific pianist, arranger, and producer Cesar Camargo Mariano. ‘Tanga’ originally featured on the Um É Pouco, Dois É Bom, Este Som Três É Demais LP, released by Odeon Brazil in 1970.
Both of these explosive Brazilian gems were previously unreleased on 7”, making this reissue a must for collectors and DJs alike.
