DESCRIPTION
Glenn Fallows and Mark Treffel made a striking impression with their debut The Globeflower Master Vol. 1 in 2021, drawing praise for its lush, nostalgic homage to ‘60s and ‘70s cinematic funk and library music. Now, with Vol. 2, the Brighton-based duo return with a more mature, immersive and expansive vision.
The Globeflower Master Vol. 2 delves deeper into European film score traditions, taking sonic cues from maestros like Stefano Torossi, David Shire, and Roger Webb. The result is a tapestry of mood-rich compositions that nod to David Axelrod, Serge Gainsbourg, and Ennio Morricone, while carving out a distinct identity of their own.
Every track is elegantly stripped back to its essentials—refined melodies, emotive harmonies and purposeful arrangements. The album evokes a strong cinematic mood: driving along a sun-drenched Italian road, memories of lost summers, or imagined scenes from old thrillers and noir dramas. Some pieces even transport listeners to otherworldly terrains, blending orchestration with psychedelic textures and synth flourishes.
Bringing further depth to the album are contributions from top-tier drummers Timmy Rickard, Ollie Boorman, and John Maiden (Tricky). Their rhythmic signatures blend seamlessly with Mark and Glenn’s textured compositions, enhancing the album's dynamic feel.
Elegant and escapist, Vol. 2 doesn’t just follow in the footsteps of its predecessor—it expands the journey, painting vivid soundscapes that linger long after the music stops. A deeply cinematic listening experience, this album stands as a testament to the duo’s commitment to their craft and their deep love for evocative, soundtrack-inspired music.
