DESCRIPTION

Official Mr Bongo reissue of the ultra-rare debut album by Super Elcados, originally released by EMI Nigeria in 1976. A scorching fusion of Nigerian funk, soul, and disco, this LP is a prime example of the raw energy and musical excellence coming out of West Africa during the golden era of Afro-funk.

Also known simply as Elcados on other recordings, the group released a total of three albums in the 1970s. Tambourine Party marked their explosive debut, followed by This World Is Full of Injustice and What Ever You Need. This first outing remains a standout, packed with searing grooves, psychedelic textures, and irresistible rhythms.

From the party-starting title track ‘Tambourine Party’ to the politically charged ‘Tribute To Murtala Mohammed’, the album shifts effortlessly between deep funk instrumentals, soulful ballads, and gritty dancefloor burners. Tracks like ‘Afro Funk’ and ‘Get Up And Do It Good’ showcase the band's tight musicianship and bold arrangements, while ‘Xray Gun’ stands out with its extended, hypnotic groove.

Reissued under license from Geoffrey Johnson (Elcados), courtesy of PMG, with special thanks to Dave Hill for his support, this long-lost classic is finally back in circulation — and sounding better than ever.
