Official Mr Bongo reissue of the ultra-rare Nigerian disco-boogie gem Viva Disco by Tunde Mabadu, originally released in 1980 on the Afrodisia label. This is one of those elusive records, largely unknown even among the most seasoned and knowledgeable collectors of African grooves.
Tunde Mabadu recorded just two albums in the 1970s — Viva Disco and Bisu (under the name Tunde Mabadu & His Sunrise) — both now considered prime examples of Nigeria’s golden era of disco and boogie. With its infectious rhythms, lush instrumentation, and raw analog charm, Viva Disco is a timeless dancefloor gem that sounds just as vital and forward-thinking today as it did over four decades ago.
This reissue brings a true obscurity out of the shadows and into the hands of a new generation of DJs, collectors, and lovers of deep Afro-disco heat.
