DESCRIPTION

Voted No. 1 in the ‘Top 100 Brazilian Albums Ever’ by Rolling Stone Magazine, Brazil

Acabou Chorare is the iconic second album from Novos Baianos, a revolutionary musical group formed in Bahia, Brazil during the 1960s. Widely regarded as one of the most important bands in the history of Brazilian music, their fusion of samba, MPB, rock ‘n’ roll, and bossa nova created a sound that was both deeply rooted and forward-thinking.

Originally released in 1972 by Som Livre, Acabou Chorare (translated as Stop Crying) followed their 1970 debut É Ferro na Boneca. Its impact was seismic — the album held top positions in the Brazilian charts for over thirty weeks and received widespread radio play across the country. It also gained popularity in Europe shortly thereafter.

The album’s title track and others were shaped with the guidance and frequent collaboration of João Gilberto and influenced by fellow Brazilian legend Gilberto Gil. The result was a record of joyful complexity and timeless warmth.

Rolling Stone Brazil ranked Acabou Chorare as the greatest Brazilian album of all time, and the track Preta, Pretinha earned the No. 20 spot in their list of the greatest Brazilian songs.

The album was written by Moraes Moreira, Luiz Galvão, Jorginho Gomes, Assis Valente, Pepeu Gomes, and Paulinho Boca de Cantor — all of whom contributed to this landmark moment in music history.
