And here it is! For the first time ever, Zoo Folle in its full, extended glory.

This double LP contains both the original 1974 soundtrack (sides A and B) and previously unreleased gemsunearthed from Giuliano Sorgini’s personal archives (sides C and D).

Back in 2016, Four Flies released the first official reissue of Zoo Folle, which sold out in just a few months, leaving collectors eager for more. Quite serendipitously, in 2017, while preparing materials for Africa Oscura, the label discovered a few mysterious reels in Giuliano Sorgini’s archive. To their surprise, these reels turned out to be the complete Zoo Folle recording sessions – including unreleased material and alternate versions that had never been heard before.

That discovery led directly to this extended reissue, which captures Zoo Folle in its entirety, providing fresh insight into one of the most acclaimed and personal works by Sorgini – a composer whose cult status keeps growing alongside The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue and Under Pompelmo.

A Personal and Powerful Score

Zoo Folle is more than just a soundtrack – it’s a deeply personal artistic statement. The project originated with Riccardo Fellini (brother of Federico Fellini), a TV director and Sorgini’s long-time friend, who asked him to score his documentary on the living conditions of animals in European zoos (specifically in Rome, London, and Paris). Contrasting images of captivity with wildlife freedom, the program was aired by RAI in primetime, and Zoo Follebecame its beating heart.

Sorgini responded with a rich, multifaceted score, featuring top-tier session musicians and an inspired palette of styles: psycho-funk, tribal grooves, orchestral drama, ambient soundscapes, and cinematic melancholy.

Musical Highlights & Collaborators

  • "Amboseli" shines in its full 14-minute version, up from the 6 minutes on the original release.

  • The heavenly voice of Edda Dell’Orso bathes Red Old Skies in golden melancholy.

  • Nino Rapicavoli’s flute adds finesse and flair to tracks like Mad Town and Slaves.

  • Enzo Restuccia’s tribal percussion powers Ultima Caccia, a Balearic favorite.

  • Enrico Ciacci lends a soulful tone with his classical guitar on Chains.

All this was built from the ground up in Sorgini’s modest Prati-based home studio in Rome, where he recorded foundational parts himself – piano, drums, synths – before expanding the arrangements in grand studios like Fono Roma, where he finally had the chance to work with a full string orchestra.

This release is both a historic document and a sonic journey, capturing one of Italy’s most creative composers at his artistic peak. A must-have for lovers of library music, funk, Italian cinema soundtracks, and 70s analog perfection.
