It includes the classic track ‘Miracles,’ which has been famously sampled by Public Enemy, Basement Jaxx, Arrested Development, and many others.
Originally hailing from Compton, Los Angeles, the Jackson Sisters were a family vocal group who briefly lit up the early 1970s soul and funk scene. Despite their short-lived career, their music made a lasting impact. Their biggest moment came with ‘I Believe in Miracles,’ a vibrant and catchy slice of bubblegum soul released on the Prophesy label in 1973. Although the single made a modest impression on the R&B charts at the time, its legacy would grow significantly.
By the late 1980s, ‘I Believe in Miracles’ had been adopted by the UK's burgeoning Rare Groove scene, leading to a resurgence in popularity that saw it re-chart in 1988. The song’s infectious hook and uplifting energy caught the ears of a new generation, leading to covers and samples across the spectrum of pop, dance, and hip-hop. British group The Pasadenas recorded a version in 1989, and Public Enemy notably sampled it the following year.
This long-awaited reissue from Mr Bongo offers the full original album, showcasing the breadth of the Jackson Sisters’ sound—from silky slow jams to gritty funk workouts. With liner notes by Charles Waring and audio licensed from Universal Music Group, this pressing delivers both a historical artefact and a timeless party starter.
