It is with great joy that we present the Mr Bongo edition of Marcos Valle’s 1983 self-titled masterpiece — a radiant slice of Brazilian boogie history. This vintage classic features the cult-favourite ‘Estrelar’, and an iconic cover photo of Marcos dressed in a pink v-neck tee, sun-drenched and surrounded by a decadent array of neon cocktails — pure 80s excess.

Produced by the legendary Lincoln Olivetti and Marcos’ brother Paulo Sérgio Valle, the album brings together a veritable dream team of Brazilian musicians and vocalists. Contributions from Rosana, Serginho Do Trombone, Robson Jorge, and Oberdan Magalhães make it a standout showcase of the era’s finest talent.

This was Marcos’ second album after returning to Brazil from his time in Los Angeles, and that West Coast influence radiates throughout, blending boogie, soul, funk, MPB, and AOR into one seamless and highly danceable package. It also includes collaborations with American legend Leon Ware, who co-wrote three tracks including the hit ‘Estrelar’.

The album’s rich palette ranges from the Balearic glow of ‘Fogo Do Sol’ to upbeat MPB-pop hybrids, offering something for both home-listeners and dancefloor devotees alike.

To give this landmark album the reissue treatment it deserves, Mr Bongo turned to Miles Showell of Abbey Road Studios — the half-speed mastering engineer responsible for the sonic upgrade of our Arthur Verocai reissue. The result: an even more immersive and vibrant listening experience that elevates the original to new heights.

To celebrate, we’ve released several formats — including both standard master and Miles Showell’s half-speed master on black vinyl, plus limited edition Rose and Mint-Green coloured vinyl inspired by the flamboyant cocktails on the cover. A definitive edition for fans and collectors alike.
