DESCRIPTION
The Baker Brothers, one of the UK’s most important contemporary jazz-funk bands and hugely popular in Japan, return with a welcome 7-inch reissue of “Patience” from their 2011 album Time To Testify.
Originally a modern soul classic by US band Rokk, later reissued by Numero, the track is reworked in true Baker Brothers style, with Chris Pedley’s tight, punchy bass driving an irresistible groove.
On the B-side, “If You Want Me To Stay” from their hit album Transition Transmission gets its first-ever 7-inch cut. A faithful yet fresh take on the Sly & The Family Stone classic, the arrangement pushes the memorable horn lines to the front, while former Average White Band vocalist Hamish Stuart brings a deeper, soulful melancholy to this standout cover.
