Originally put out in 2008, WLIB AM: King of the Wigflip is a genre-hopping beat odyssey from acclaimed producer Madlib, wrapping up the legendary BBE Beat Generation series. The album imagines a late-night pirate radio broadcast on WLIB AM, hosted by the enigmatic Beat Konducta himself. With Madlib at the helm, the record dives into a dense collage of jazz, soul, hip-hop, funk, and psychedelia — all filtered through his raw, lo-fi aesthetic.
The album features a wide cast of collaborators, from MF Doom and Guilty Simpson to Talib Kweli and Georgia Anne Muldrow, blending vocal tracks with instrumental beat sketches and interludes. It’s a sonic patchwork that feels spontaneous and analog — a celebration of crate-digging culture and the art of musical mischief.
Whether it's laid-back grooves, thumping boom-bap, or spaced-out textures, WLIB AM delivers a unique radio-theater-meets-mixtape experience only Madlib could conjure.
