Originally released in 1975, Remember My Song is the fifth studio album by Labi Siffre and one of his most iconic. Best known for its hard-hitting funk and soul grooves, the album includes ‘I Got The’, ‘The Vulture’, and ‘Sadie And The Devil’—all of which have been heavily sampled by legendary artists such as Eminem, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, Atmosphere, The Beatnuts, and Frankenstein.
Co-produced by Derek Lawrence and Big Jim Sullivan, the latter a prolific session musician and producer who worked with the likes of David Bowie, Frank Zappa, and Serge Gainsbourg (notably on Histoire De Melody Nelson), the album delivers a rich, genre-spanning sound. The rhythm section is anchored by Brian Bennett of The Shadows, along with Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock—later famed as Chas ‘n’ Dave.
A funk masterpiece from start to finish, Remember My Song fuses tight grooves, poignant songwriting, and exceptional musicianship, cementing its place as one of the standout records of the era.
