DESCRIPTION
Yaphet is the new album from rapper Curly Castro, also known as one half of Shrapknel, released September 18, 2026 via Backwoodz Studioz. Drawing inspiration from the Blaxploitation cinema of the 1970s, Castro uses the era’s Black heroes and antiheroes as a springboard for vivid, cinematic lyricism, sharp references and constantly shifting flows.
Produced entirely by Milwaukee beatmaker Locust, Yaphet pairs energetic, eclectic production with some of Castro’s most personal writing to date. Beneath the technical fireworks, the album confronts grief, mortality and the experiences that have shaped him since 2021’s Little Robert Hutton. Guest appearances include billy woods, PremRock, Fatboi Sharif, Brian Ennals, SKECH185, Blueprint, AJ Suede, shemar, ALASKA, Sunmundi, blackchai and Margel the Sophant.
